Hi Everyone! I am doing something that is really foreign for me. I am soliciting your help on behalf of Ashlynn to "save the frogs". Sometimes I am convinced that she is not my daughter. I won't even begin to tell you what we did with firecrackers and frogs when I was a kid. I know that God gives us children who teach us important lessons for our lives. She is such an animal lover. She gets so emotional over any harm to an animal. This story really bothered her and so she is asking for the help of her fellow students and anyone else who will be a part of doing our part to save the frogs. This is the year of the frogs. Frogs are going extinct. So are toads, salamanders, newts, and the intriguingly unusual caecilians. Frogs and other amphibians are dying. After thriving for over 360 million years, 1/3 to 1/2 of the world’s 6,000 known amphibian species could go extinct in our lifetime – which would be the single greatest mass extinction since the disappearance of the dinosaurs. The urgent danger is chytrid fungus, but other causes include habitat loss, pollution and pesticides, and climate change. Amphibians have long been referred to as the “canaries in the coal mine” – they are among the first species to be affected by environmental stressors, so when they show declines in the wild, it serves as a warning to other species, including humans. But there’s good news: You can help! 100% of funds donated to Amphibian Ark will be spent on ensuring a long-term future for threatened amphibians.
