Motherhood - If it was going to be easy, it never would have started with something called labor!

Being a mommy is a little different than it was decades ago. There are some changes that have been great and others not so much. I have some mommy complaints. Some that I am guilty of myself. They are as follows....

Kids do not need 500,000 warnings "to stop or you will go to time out".

I agree, there are probably germs on the Wal-Mart cart, but COME ON! Do we really have to feel like a bad mom if we don't have cutsie covers and anti-bacterial wipes in the purse? It seems to me that the most paranoid "germies mommies" are the ones that always have sick kids.

We took our kids to the movies recently and while telling another mom about it I got cut off in mid sentence with, "Well, that is not rated G!" I personally do not feel any less christian because my children saw a PG cartoon with me.

This may be the small town girl in me, but it may be time to slow down when your child's calender takes over your life. I know mom's who are gone every night of the week for some lesson, practice, or rehearsal.

They don't NEED every toy, every movie, or every gadget that is new to the store. I have found that most days my kids play with hangers, kitchen towels, scarfs, and laundry baskets much more than the thousands of dollars of merchandise in their overy cluttered rooms.

There should be NO GUILT associated with hiring a babysitter and having a date with your husband. Of course, like last night when we did this, the night was called off when Ashlynn got bit by a wasp on the mouth and we rushed home because she was so panicked.

Who made up the rule that harsh discipline would ruin your child's personality and stunt their confidence? I think that is malarky (malarky - speech or writing designed to obscure, mislead, or impress; bunkum).

Yes maam and no sir are not taught enough!

I am of course, no expert and what works for you may not work for me and vise versa. But here is one thing that I know for sure.....

The only people in this world who are always sure about the proper way to raise children are those who've never had any.

Monica,
I so agree with everything you said. When I worked in the psych unit and in juvenile justice system, it seemed that many kids were in treatment when it should have been their parents.
Not teaching children respect for others, authority, God and self has been the ruin of many a child and the destruction of many a family.

I totally agree! I love that my best friend now has two kids. Unfortunately for teaching her this lesson, they are really good. However, I hope the one in her tummy gives her the grief she gave her mom. I know that is a horrible thought but shouldn't everyone get the priviledge of at least one difficult child? Bare in mind I love her like a sister.
