Looking for the "good"

I think that sometimes kids get a bad reputation with adults because we forget what it is like to be a teenager. I truely believe that anyone (including teenagers) given the oppurtunity to do good usually chooses to do so. I recently saw that truth in action.

When we moved from the metroplex my husband asked three teens from his former football team to come and help us move. Now considering that he no longer had any leverage with these young men and had not offered any payment but pizza you would think that they might consider laughing at him and never showing up. They did show up and even arrived early. They worked so hard and were so careful with all of our furniture. They were polite to me and joked with the kids. I didn't touch one heavy object.

Now if that didn't make me proud of young men, there's more. As we got closer to the new place, the hubby got a call from a teen on the new football team. He was just letting us know that when we arrived they would have three young men waiting on us to unload. As promised, they were waiting in the driveway. Again, I did not lift one heavy object. And again, they did it all for a hamburger.

I believe in the goodness of people and I hope that we will all spend our lives looking for the good in others. I also believe with children and teens we need to give them oppurtunites to to good and I feel sure that they will make the choice to do just that.
