A personal story of courage

I went to a fun ladies gathering in town yesterday afternoon and got to hear one of our local ladies tell the story about her son and his struggles with his leg. He was born with one leg shorter than the other and with only 9 toes. She talked about the many ways that God has been at work in his life and all the lessons that she has learned along the way. He is a 6th grader and is playing football this year. Rocky has been so careful to put him in the most suitable position in order to protect him as much as possible and tried to coach him accordingly. Yesterday, after hearing all that they have been through and just how much courage he has, I felt a peace and realized that God has been protecting him long before he put on shoulder pads. At the end of her talk she cried when she talked about how she felt when she saw him run out on the football field. I love hearing the stories behind the lives of the boys in helmets!

Here is a poem that she gave us.......

Christian

by Maya Angelou

When I say... "I am a Christian"I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin."

I'm whispering "I was lost,"Now I'm found and forgiven.

When I say..."I am a Christian"I don't speak of this with pride.

I'm confessing that I stumble and need CHRIST to be my guide.

When I say... "I am a Christian"I'm not trying to be strong.

I'm professing that I'm weakand need HIS strength to carry on.

When I say... "I am a Christian"I'm not bragging of success.

I'm admitting I have failedand need God to clean my mess.

When I say... "I am a Christian"I'm not claiming to be perfect,

My flaws are far too visiblebut, God believes I am worth it.

When I say... "I am a Christian"I still feel the sting of pain,

I have my share of heartaches So I call upon His name.

When I say... "I am a Christian"I'm not holier than thou,

I'm just a simple sinnerwho received God's good grace, somehow.
