Purpose

I have adopted a word for 2008 and it is purpose. My goal is to live every day with purpose and to approach everything that I do on purpose. The word came to me on a gift from my parents for Christmas. It was a stone plague that says, "find a purpose in life so big it will challenge every capacity to be at your best."

Purpose is:

An object to be reached; a target; an aim; a goal.
A result that is desired; an intention.
The act of intending to do something; resolution; determination.
The subject of discourse; the point at issue.
The reason for which something is done, or the reason it is done in a particular way.

Peter F. Drucker:
There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all.

Helen Keller:
Many people have a wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification, but through fidelity to a worthy purpose.

James Thurber:
All men should strive to learn before they die, what they are running from, and to, and why.

Vaclav Havel:
Work for something because it is good, not just because it stands a chance to succeed.
So what word are you living in 2008?

I am simply trying to be a "Christian" and learn to live in a way that is pleasing to God. That is my #1 goal for this year.

What a great post. I decided that every morning, I'm going to wake up and say "Jesus, What do you want me to do today? Please show me." It's been going great. He's giving me some opportunities to reach out to people, and I think that it is because I asked Him what He wanted me to do.
