THOUGHTS

Today a good friend of mine begins her moving process to her new place. This has made me reflect on all of the moves that I have made just in the last 10years. When Rocky and I married we moved into an apartment in Abilene. From there to here we have moved six times. By the time Ashylnn was 31/2 she had lived in 6 places. Fortunately for Rylan this has been his only home. I don't envy anyone moving, but there are some good things. Everything gets sorted and cleaned out. That brings me back to my mission for the day. Finish cleaning out those kids rooms.

Whether through self-help books or public speaking gurus, Americans seem to be on an unending quest to find ways to make themselves smile. In his new book, “Stumbling on Happiness,” Daniel Gilbert, a Harvard professor of psychology, explores the limitations of human imagination and why that prevents us from finding happiness. Gilbert found that we’re not as happy as we could be because we distort our past experiences and are reluctant to look to others’ experience for guidance. As a result, we tend to be ill-equipped to cope with our futures, let alone control them. “Our desire to control is so powerful, and the feeling of being in control so rewarding, that people often act as though they can control the uncontrollable.

One thing that I can say that I have learned from working behind a stylist chair for all of these years is that there are happy and unhappy people in both genders, all races, accross social classes, in all professions, and with religious and non-religious individuals. I want to be like Paul:

I rejoice greatly in the Lord that at last you have renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you have been concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. I was searching around trying to decide what to do with the rest of my life. I have been trying to decide if I need to plan to go back to work in the next few years. Blessings

Today I feel blessed to have the Lord working in my life. I have some what of a problem letting God have the reigns. For that, I think that sometimes he brings me to my knees so that I remember that he is in control. I rely on appointments to help supplement our income. I only had one scheduled for this week as of yesterday. I did a lot of worrying, stressing, and whinning about it before I hit my knees and prayed. As of this morning I have three appointments. I am thakful that I have a God who will take control. I just have to remember to ask.
