I am laughing soooo hard right now!! I guess I'm a child of the 80s -- there were only a few that I didn't really relate to. But I knew what you were talking about with each and every one of them! It is so funny how one decade ties so many people together (at least in our country). Did you make up this list, Monica? It's great!!

Those were the days...

My son discovered our 80's cassette tape collection a few years ago and he and his friends think it's so cool! Original cassettes from the 80's! Wow!(It's funny, I don't mind hearing those songs blaring from his room.)

I guess we DID have pretty cool music then. I tried to explain to him that MTV used to be all about music videos. We'd stay up all night watching videos. If you look at some of the old videos, they are pretty hysterical now!

Thanks for the trip back!

Lisa,

Some I made up and some I found here and there. The 80's were the best! I know that you had big hair, right?

NB,

There has never been better music than 80's in my opinion. Funny that our kids are so clueless about what MTV used to be, not that I really know. We weren't allowed to watch it when I was a kid. I still never watch it, but I remember what a big deal it was when it got its start.

My fav movie is St. Elmo's Fire what about yours?

Great pick for a movie. Some of my 80's favorites: The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Top Gun, Good Morning,Vietnam, Dirty Dancing, Footloose, Lethal Weapon, Rain Man, etc... We had some pretty scary movies for the time also. I'm still not a scary movie fan. I'm a chicken. I still have to watch with someone and I close my eyes on the scary parts.

MTV...Don't bother turning on MTV now, it's a bunch of junk, and the videos are raunchy. It was much better in the 80's. Then, I only got to watch MTV when I went to a friend's house. We didn't have cable or a dish at our house. But on Friday nights you could still watch Friday Night Videos after midnight on ABC or CBS, I forget which.

My big hair was pretty much just my bangs. I still feel embarrassed thinking about it ... I remember my Mom helping me in 5th grade before a roller skating party to tease my bangs up real high -- and the amount of hairspray I used!!! UGH! Aerosol too!! (I don't know why that memory in particular is so vivid -- I even remember what I was wearing to that party!) I'm embarrassed about the things I thought were important when I was a kid! I guess we could all say the same.

I loved the 80's and wish all the styles would come back. Big hair was THE BEST!

You think I'm kidding don't you? NOT

Nb,

Those were all great movies! A friend of mine had an eighties party with her friends. I will try to convince her to comment and let us all know what they did. I know that they dressed up. Eighties movie night would be fun.

Lisa,

We called that tidal wave bangs. That is probably the single reason that our ozone is in a mess.

Trey,

"What you talkin' 'bout Willis?"....SIKE!

I related to all of them! They would fit on my foger list I posted today.

I hate to say it, but when I was at Mom's house last week we came across my sister's Like a Virgin tape. We started to throw it away, but she decided to play it while she looked through all of her h.s. memorabilia. Unfortunately I have to also admit to knowing all the lyricks on it as well. I liked Hewy Lewis and the News and he had great videos. Remember Max Headron?

As far as movies go I think about the Outsiders, Rocky, Top Gun and any of the Karate Kids.

Just like we had 60's days when I was in school, Josh had an 80's day. We had trouble coming up with something for him to wear. Finally we settled on a red polo covered by a white button down. I wish I would have remembered the rolled pants.
Great list. Can you tell I am trying to catch up on my reading from the last couple of weeks?
